James “Jim” Jarvis, 79, of Morganton passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020.  Born in Iredell County, NC on October 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Herman Burton Jarvis and Ann Mae Rimmer Jarvis. 

Jim was a veteran of the US Navy and worked as a loan officer at Wachovia Bank for 33 years.  He worked in Morganton, Asheville, and Winston-Salem, finally retiring as vice president of the retail loan office.  He served on the board of trustees for NCSD and was a member of Kiwanis Club.

Jim was a family man who enjoyed fishing and telling tales.  He was a frequent patron of Pat’s Snack Bar and enjoyed hanging out and telling stories at Allman Upholstery.  These last three months, his favorite activity was watching birds and squirrels.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Leigh Ann Jarvis-Hurley (Eric), Stacey Jarvis Smith, and Diana Poteet, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Eli Patton, Savannah Smith (Nathan Deir), Fletcher Smith, David Poteet (Chelsey), and Natalie Poteet; brother, Edward Jarvis (Cindy); and sisters, Janice Menscer (Dwaine) and Peggy Johnson.

Family and friends may stop by Sossoman Funeral Home from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursday, July 2, 2020 to pay their respects.  The family will have a gathering from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 5 at Jim’s home.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
