Pastor Michael “Todd” Phillips, 60 of Morganton, NC passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Born on September 9, 1961, he was the son of the late Dennis “Wade” Phillips and Faye Chester Phillips. Todd was an ordained bishop with the Church of God where he served as a faithful evangelist and pastor for over 40 years. Todd was the devoted pastor of the Morganton Freedom Church of God for 22 years. He delivered his first sermon on June 25, 1978 at Longview Church of God. Todd graduated from East Coast Bible College (Lee University) in Charlotte. He was an Associate Pastor at South Gastonia Church of God where he met his wife, Ami. Todd loved the Atlanta Braves, playing his bass guitar, and watching the Andy Griffith Show. He was a very selfless person who loved God and spending time with his family.

Todd is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ami Phillips; daughters, Leah Ross (Steve), Anah Phillips, Dannah Phillips; sister, Kim Stamey (Jimmy); brother, Terry Phillips; niece, Heather Stamey; great-nephew, Aiden Lewis; aunt, Gladys Seitz.

In addition to his parents, Todd is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ollis and Nellie Chester, Johnny and Lucille Phillips; brother, Dennis Phillips.

The family will receive friends from 11am until noon, Saturday December 4, 2021 at Morganton Freedom Church of God. A funeral will be held in the church at noon. Reverend Kenneth Rouse, Reverend Dave Metz, Reverend Don Caldwell, Dr. Kenneth Bell will assist in officiating the service. Burial will follow at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City, NC at 3:30pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morganton Freedom Church of God.
